Brief History of the Department

The computer Science department in Y.A. Govt. College(W), Chirala was established in 1997. Department of Computer Science was started with the course B.Sc(Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science)  wih intake of 30 students in the same year.  The course B.Com (Computer Application)  was started in the year 1998 with intake of 30 students as self finance course. The course B.Sc(Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science)  and  B.Sc(Mathematics, Chemistry, Computer Science)were started wih intake of 30 students in the year 2014. In the year 2020, PG Course in M.Sc (Computer Science) was started with intake of 30 students. In the Year 2021, new UG course under B.Sc Programme was started with combinations of Mathematics, Data Science and Computer Science with intake of 30 students. In the year 2022,  new UG course under B.A Programme was started with combinations of  Economics, Political Science and Computer Applications with intake of 30 students. Now total strength of the students in Department is 269. The department is functioning with one regular faculty and three guest faculties.

Highlights of the Department

• The Department has been reputed with well -qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty members whose excellent contribution has been rendered in teaching,  and other academic activities, besides motivating the students for their academic excellence.
• The Department has well equipped computer laboratories and  departmental library.
• The staff members are encouraging and giving guidance to the students in doing mini projects by arranging field trips.
• The staff members took the students to field trips in the form of visiting industries every year so that they came to know about new technology and increase their practical knowledge.
•  The staff of the Department participated in many National seminars, workshops, and conferences and presented papers.
• The Department is giving coaching to PG Entrance Exam for III B.Sc., students of computer combinations and   many of them got good ranks and  joined in PG courses.
• Conducting guest lectures in the latest technologies from outside college staff to enrich their knowledge.
• Department is offering the certificate courses in latest technologies.
